POSITION SUMMARY: |
The Child Care Manager is responsible for the effective administration and operation of our Child Care Centre in accordance with the Childcare Modernization Act and its regulations, the Early Learning Care and Quality Improvement tool for the City of Toronto, and the regulations and procedures of other legislative bodies and St. Stephen’s Community House. She/he ensures clear communication between management and direct service staff and adherence to agency HR, administration and financial policies and procedures.

A. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES |
1. Ensures the safety, health and wellbeing of the children in the Centre.
2. Provides quality child care programs to meet the physical, social/emotional and cognitive needs of children (Infant to School Age). Ensures an age-appropriate curriculum for each group to meet individual developmental needs is planned, implemented and posted. 3. Maintains open communication with parents regarding admissions, withdrawals, subsidy, their child’s progress, and other relevant information on a continuous basis. 4. Works with families from a community development perspective to improve family and neighbourhood life for all. Involve staff and parents in social action to promote child care and social inclusion. Encourages parental involvement in the centre through parent engagement activities, parent/staff meetings, fundraising, advocacy and social activities. 5. Participate in community and neighbourhood meetings and events relevant to families to represent St. Stephen’s Community House. 6. Supervise all staff (FT/, PT, temporary, seasonal, casual) and students, including evaluation of staff performance. Holds supervision meetings, room and staff team meetings to ensure goal setting, flow of communication and adequate staff management. Adheres to collective agreement as it pertains to staff. Arranges schedules and staffing requirements for all staff. 7. Facilitates development and implementation of policies and procedures to meet staff and children’s needs. 8. Assists in the preparation of the child care budget with the Director and Finance Director and monitors budget expenditures to keep within guidelines. 9. Monitors, evaluates and acts to ensure enrollment is at capacity and maintains communication with Toronto Children’s Services regarding subsidies, waiting lists and statistics.
10. Manual and electronic records management including children and staff data, children’s reports, attendance records, time sheets, fees, petty cash, waiting lists, fire drills, and any other assigned tasks. Ensures the collection and documentation of parent fees; and completion of monthly statement for the Finance Department. 11. Purchases and orders supplies and equipment for all areas of the centre, and ensures the safe operation and timely repairs of equipment, furnishings, etc. Manages physical building issues, maintenance and problems to ensure a safe environment. 12. Oversees the operation of the kitchen in terms of food purchases, menu preparation and the provision of quality food. 13. Attends meetings scheduled by Toronto Children’s Services and/or the Ministry of Education as required. Maintains good communication with external partners as assigned. 14. Recognize, document and take action in the case of suspected child abuse, illness or accident. Completes serious occurrence reports as required. |
B. ORGANIZATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Prepare for, and actively participate in, regular supervision meetings, including the establishment and evaluation of an annual goal plan
2. Participate in the House activities, meetings and committees and community events as appropriate and/or assigned 3. Adhere to all House policies and procedures and ensure confidentiality is maintained on all client, staff and agency information 4. Support community development and social action activities as they arise both within the agency and within the communities we work with. 5. As a representative of St. Stephen’s, responsible for ensuring professional and effective communication with stakeholders of all kinds 6. Cooperate and participate with health and safety legislation and instructions for a safe and healthy workspace. Act as the certified health and safety management representative on the committee

C. Perform other duties as assigned by the Child Care Director |
QUALIFICATIONS: |
· Familiarity with Asset Based Community Development and Anti – Oppression practice is an asset
|
WORK SCHEDULE: |
· Monday – Friday (hours to reflect program’s needs), occasional evenings or Saturday
|
