Overview

We are currently seeking a qualified Editor (NOC 51110) to coordinate our editorial operations across multiple media platforms.

Job Duties

The successful candidate will:

  • Evaluate suitability of material for publication, broadcast or Internet and print media
  • Review, edit, and approve content for accuracy, clarity, style, grammar, and adherence to editorial standards.
  • Make decisions on the significance of copy and determine what what content will be published or broadcast
  • Plan layout or format of copy according to space or time allocations
  • Publish text for distribution for magazine and newspaper
  • Detect and correct errors in spelling, grammar and syntax
  • Shorten or lengthen copy
  • Plan coverage of upcoming events and assign work accordingly
  • Confer with authors, staff writers, reporters and others regarding revisions to copy
  • Plan and co-ordinate activities of staff and assure production deadlines are met
  • Write or prepare and present introductions, marketing and promotional materials, bibliographic references, indexes and other text
  • Review programs and policies to ensure conformance with regulations
  • Plan and maintain production schedules
  • Liaise with authors, composers, producers and directors

Qualifications

  • At least five (5) years of experience in editorial roles within television, radio, print, digital media, or a combination thereof.
  • Able to perform the duties of this position
  • Strong editorial judgment and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, email systems, and other standard office software.
  • Post-secondary training in related field is an asset

Language Requirements

Portuguese (advanced written and oral proficiency) — required, as the majority of editorial content produced, reviewed, and published by the organization is in Portuguese and serves the Portuguese-speaking community.

English

Supervision

The position involves the supervision of approximately 10 employees working across various editorial, production, and media functions.

Employment Details

Permanent, full-time position
40 hours per week

Wage: $36.55 per hour

Work is primarily performed on-site. Limited remote work may be available at the employer’s discretion.
